I wanted to put a spin on the traditional chocolate chip cookie for my son, so I decided to try to make a gourmet cookie instead. After reading several different recipes online, I found that the common factor is using a lot of real ingredients and adding some extra things. For my first batch, I decided to make the traditional chocolate chip cookies to be used as comparison. Then for the second batch I went the full blown gourmet route. I used real butter instead of margarine, which made all difference in the world. I used vanilla sugar instead of common cane sugar and it added so much more flavor. Most recipes call for semi-sweet chocolate, but for these I used dark chocolate. Since gourmet is all about adding flavor and texture, I added some nuts and dried fruit. These cookies turned out to be amazing, even my son said I should give one of these as a cookie gift or make a gift basket full of them. The difference was incredible, the texture was great and the flavor was so beyond typical chocolate chip cookies that I decided to try adding a gourmet flare to all my cookie recipes.
